N2 - Summary. Burning mouth syndrome is associated with a significant discomfort for the patient. The following research assessed and validated the use of a medical device designed to facilitate the healing of the oral mucosa, and therefore to reduce any undesirable effects induced by the inflammation and ulceration of the mucous membranes. Among the latest generation of medical devices, hyaluronic acid and amino acid preparations stand out. Several studies have shown the regenerative effect of this association on the mucous membranes of the oral cavity. A prospective study was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of a new oral formulation based on sodium hyaluronate and amino acids (Mucosamin®) versus a bicarbonate solution in the clinical management of patients with burning mouth syndrome secondary to local or systemic conditions, with a particular focus on the female population, where the prevalence of burning mouth syndrome is significantly higher. Based on the data obtained, the study product can be recommended for local treatment, to reduce the degree of de-epithelialization of the mucosa. The results demonstrate that the solution based on hyaluronic acid and amino acids has shown to improve at all control points, decrease and healing of lesions, patient satisfaction and reduction of pain sensation.
