N2 - Summary. Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is appraised as the second leading cause of death in cancer after progression. Overall, risk factors and biomarkers enhance thrombotic risk in patients with cancer. Despite recent efforts to reduce the ‘global gender gap’, so far gender differences have not been clearly investigated on this special issue. Thus, we herein provide an overview on cancer-associated venous thrombosis (CAT) with a focus on gender differences, critically discussing epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment. Physicians and researchers interested in sex and gender medicine will find this updated commentary a useful and pragmatic tool for a more personalized management of CAT patients.
